Hadrammeh Sidibeh, minister of Youth and Sports has inaugurated the new board of the country’s major stadium, the Independence Stadium, a ceremony held at the Stadium ground in Bakau on Tuesday.

As one of the satellite institutions under the ministry of youth and sports, the new board is charged with the affairs to run and manage the stadium as well as to revamp the image of the stadium and raise its standards after series of poor management.
Hon. Sidibeh said his ministry is very much committed to the development of the independence stadium as it is the only stadium in the country.
He said the board has a very big responsibility to help in the development of this stadium. “Be assured of my ministry’s unconditional support at all times,” he said.
He challenged them to work on their proposal in other to get funding from the other institution for the maintenance of the Stadium and Friendship hostel.
Cherno Barra Touray, board chairman said the board faces a huge task with numerous challenges, but they shall map out ideas with the management and put all those ingredients into consideration and will rise to the challenges.
“We will maintain the better relationship between this institution, stakeholders and other institutions be it government or the private sector, national Sports Federations, Association, groups, individuals and partners in development,” he said.

He noted that the board will also consider reviewing the current agreements, arrangements, rates and percentages because they will not allow their reputation and credibility to be dented.
Mr. Touray urges the management to come up with an effective strategic plan that would need an operational management mechanism in place in other to achieve the institutions desired objectives.
He further appeals for continuous substantial support and assistance from the Ministry of Youth and Sports through the office of the President to build another stadium because Gambia have only one standard stadium.
